There’s one phrase I’ve heard over and over again since moving to Berlin at the start of
this year, from locals and new arrivals alike. “You can wear whatever you want in Berlin.
Nobody judges you. Anything goes.” And that philosophy is admirably true for everybody, with the exception of Berlin’s beleaguered hipsters.
In 2006, bailiffs investigating overdue rent in a London council flat broke down the door and discovered the body of a woman. It was in such an advanced state of decomposition that the cause and time of death could not be confirmed. Surrounded by partly-wrapped Christmas presents, with the television still tuned to the channel she’d been watching when she died, it was estimated that she had lain undiscovered for three years. Dreams of a Life explores how this could happen.
this is a little blurb to let you know about the existence of the blog of one of our favourite independent Berlin fashion designers….Soon you’ll be getting a little update of her fashion bits’n’pieces as well as news about the inside crowd of Berlin independent designers – the ones who put on their own Berlin fashion shows like But and Better and the like, the ones we’re all excited about, the ones that make us crave for the taste of tomorrow. When does that start, btw?
After her successful exhibition (“Mia Mor’is Funkyrotic”) in Freudenhaus Hase, Funkyrotic is now showing some of her work in John’s Artiger Frisiersalon on Danziger Str. Art manager Jörg Prüsse came to the Hase show, and agreed to put her work on show. Jörg has a Berlin fame in his own right, as the former GDR’s celebrity hairdresser, with his own TV show where he would amid other stunts cut hair with a Samurai sword. Jörg’s son Johnny, also an artist, now runs John’s Artiger Frisiersalon on Danziger Strasse 9, an artist hangout come gallery, where you can get your hair cut, see some art and soak up the local kunstler gossip, and it’s here that Funky’s works are now to be seen. If you walk a few metres up from the Eberswalde U-Bahnhof in the heart of the trendy Prenzlauerberg district you’ll see Funkyrotic’s “Meany” looking moodily out at you, together with a couple of babes with their legs wrapped around each other. To see a few more pictures step inside and check her work out. You might even end up getting your hair cut at the same time. Or perhaps just a shampoo while FR’s Russian Beauty pouts suggestively down at you.
