The Sandlotkids out of Munich – keep an eye on this band

sandlotkids

We came across Sandlotkids by…hmm…okay, I can’t remember. But we quickly became addicted. I’m always on the lookout for bands that sound like they have what it takes to go the distance, bands who you sense aren’t messing around, and Sandlotkids is definitely one of those.

They’re about to embark on a two week tour through Germany, playing at Kranhalle in Munich (8.2) and later in February in Berlin (17.2)…so we asked them a few questions…

indieRepublik: How did you come up with the name?

Sandlotkids: It is basically inspired by a movie from the early 90s about a shy introverted boy who makes friends by playing baseball and about a huge dog. And dogs are what keeps this band together. Only dog can judge us.

indieRepublik: How did you get together as a band?

Sandlotkids: Orion (vocals/guitar) and Anton (Bass) used to make music together for a while in different projects from metal to hardore. But Orion always had this project in mind where he was looking for fellow musicians. A band that tells a story that is honest and happy to try out new things. So Anton introduced him to Georg (Drums) and they fell in love. Mentally and musically. Some weeks after that Fabi joined the band and Anton joined as our bassist. In 2016 Carl joined the band and plays the trumpet and does some backing vocals.

indieRepublik: How does the songwriting process work for you / in your band?

Sandlotkids: It depends. Most of the time Orion has a concrete idea for a song and when we rehearse we put the pieces together. On the other hand sometimes it only takes one riff. The last song we wrote called “Can You Or Can You Not” which will be release on Vinyl on the 2nd of February started out with just one riff and we finished the song at the rehearsal in under one hour. Sometimes we do harmonize pretty good haha

Our music as a movie? A guy who finds the love of his live who is a famous actor in hollywood, then getting divorced and ending up lonely and heartbroken in his bookstore.

indieRepublik: If your music was a movie, which genre would it be in?

Sandlotkids: I guess it must be a pretty cheezy Hollywood love story….but in reverse.

Like playing Notting Hill in Reverse. A guy who finds the love of his live who is a famous actor in hollywood, then getting divorced and ending up lonely and heartbroken in his bookstore.

One day I would listen to a lot of Slayer records and on the next day I would only listen to the old Taylor Swift records

indieRepublik: What music do you listen to when your´re touring?

Sandlotkids: I enjoy listening to all kinds of music. It deepends on my mood. On one day I would listen to a lot of Slayer records and on the next day I would only listen to the old Taylor Swift records.

indieRepublik: What was the nicest compliment you once got?

indie republik interviews sandlotkidsSandlotkids: “I love the dogs you´re following on instagram.”

indieRepublik: If you had to describe your music to a deaf person what would you say?:

Sandlotkids: I probably won´t say anything because the person is deaf. I would rather show him this meme (picture attaches)

indieRepublik: Tell us a secret about yourself.

Sandlotkids: I don´t like snakes. Unless I see a picture of a snake wearing a party hat. That makes them cute somehow.

indieRepublik: What was the last concert you went to?

Sandlotkids: Arch Enemy / TonHalle Munich

indieRepublik: Where do you get your inspiration from?

Mostly from being heartbroken and broke haha.
